CL Combat

Today’s event was AMA Speed Limit Combat. Twenty-five contestants flew a highly  competitive event with a twist of a limited speed. Sounds easy, right?  Well, detuning a combat plane to not exceed 75mph is tougher than one might think.

Today we flew the AMA Fast 2D class. It was another great day of combat! There were several really good matches, and several poor ones. There were pilots from all over the USA and we had zero altercations or complaints.

We had outstanding weather for combat in Muncie. There were lots of great matches today. Dave Edwards, Arlene Mears, Matt Brown, Jerry Sabin, Arnie Delgado, Fred Quezada, and Chris Gay all did an excellent job of officiating our combat events.

F2D combat is a double-elimination event, that started on Monday, July 7th. Round one went well.

There were 25 entries in the Control Line (CL) Combat Speed Limit event, and it was flown as a double elimination event in the first round, rather than a full double event. Those with a loss in the first round flew another match, and if they won, they moved on.

The normal Control Line (CL) Combat pace returned for 1/2A Combat on Monday, August 5. Electric starters are permitted, and shutoffs are not required—they're the most common cause of flame outs.

Many of the competitors who had flown in the Team Trials or the F2d National Championship headed home, but their ranks were filled with new faces. Many are specialists in the event and fly nothing other than Speed Limit Combat.
